Mounting Wings

June 19, 2004 10:26 PM

The wings went on for the last time today. Len and Pam were there to help, as usual (Thanks!). I put the bolts in the freezer before hand and used BoeLube on them too. They slid in with some firm taps from the 2 pound sledge.

Another item checked off the list!

Did you use hardware store bolts for the first wing mount? How many people helped put the wings on for the 1st time? Did you file the edges of the spars as Van suggests? I thought to make a support for the outer end of the wing using the dihedral specified by Van (calc). Think this is an OK idea? How much lift do you need at the inboard end? Nice photos. Bill

No, used the 'real' bolts from the get go. Generic bolts would work for the initial fit too. I didn't have the need to file the edges, so I didn't. The dihedral is set at the center section already. Outboard support might be handy during fitting, but nothing precise is needed in that regard. -Larry.
