Engine Start!

July 2, 2004 8:16 PM

Grrr-rrrr-rrr, Blap-blap-blap, Prrrrrrr.....

Oh yeah!

The day of the engine start has finally arrived. We installed the fuses for the starter and the Rose ignition and spun the starter with a plug removed from each cylinder until we saw the oil pressure build. Then Walter put five gallons of fuel in each tank (no leaks yet). I pointed it towards an empty spot on the ramp, tied the tail down, chocked the wheels, readied the fire extingusher, etc. I climbed and Dan talked me through the startup routine. It caught right away and ran real smooth. Sounds good too. Tests of mag, ignition and mixture ICO proved all those systems are working as expected. (Yipee!!) However, I had to adjust the EIS tach setting, as it was reading double the RPM, but that is an easy adjustment via the EIS software.

Thanks to Dan 'Goodwrench' Ward for helping with the million pre-start details.

Five gallons per side.

Final words from the coach.

Thumbs up and an RV grin!

Whooo-hoo!

Happy, happy!

Congratulations. Did you reassemble the engine yourself? We're getting ready to do our own shortly (0-360-RV6A).

Thanks.

Oh no...That would add yet another year to the project. It's a Bob Barrows O-360; carburated, many new, some yellow-tagged parts. He'll build it however you want. He's near Roanoke, VA.
