Preheat Installed

November 14, 2004 8:56 PM

It's been getting colder lately, 26° F last night, so I installed a Reiff Engine Preheater. I got the SL4 kit, which heats both the oil sump heater and the cylinders. It was pretty straight forward to install, about four hours total. It would have been less, but I had to adjust the front ramps on the baffles to get the clearance needed for the cylinder heaters. With the cowl plugged and a blanket over the top, everything is kept toasty warm.

The six cylinder version is shown here. Mine is four cylinders.
