TCAS Antenna

I have a Monroy ATD-200 traffic detector in the panel. The hardest part of the installation was finding a place for the antenna. It's suppose to be installed on the belly, forward of the wing, at least two feet from the transponder antenna. On the RV, this leaves few options. You are basically restricted to somewhere ahead of the firewall. So I made this cute little bracket to allow the antenna to hang over the edge of the filtered airbox. I expected good things from it until I remembered that I have aluminum heat shield on the inside of the cowl. An electron friend said "Oh yeah, that'll block the signals very well". Great. Anyway, it became a moot point because the antenna self destructed during the first flight. The post came out of the white nylon base and departed the plane. I guess the shake-rattle-n-roll of the Lycoming was too much for it.

So, I made use of the aluminum heat shield as a grounding plane and put the antenna right in the middle of it.

I don't get any points for aesthetics, but it performs very well.
