Fuel Gauge Calibration

December 29, 2004 11:04 PM

It's taken three attempts, buy I finally calibrated my EI FL-2C fuel gauge. The first attempt I tried to use someone else's calibration numbers. Those weren't even close. The second attempt, I screwed up during the cryptic programming procedure. And the third time was the charm.

I drained the useable fuel using the fuel pump and gascolator drain while Pam manned the switches in the cockpit. Then she pumped the gas during the fill-up, as I sat in the cokcpit. This drew a crowd and was cause for teasing from others at the airport. Reaching the button on the back of the fuel gauge was easily done from the cockpit by reaching around though the left access panel. In the end I had 20.7 gallons useable on each side and the following calibration points:

Gallons/Left/Right
Zero Useable/2494/2554
4/2596/2644
8/2674/2716
12/2734/2775
16/2795/2859
Full/2972/3025
