Rudder Pedal Springs

January 27, 2005 1:50 PM

I put these springs on the rudder pedals to keep them forward and provide a little fish-tail dampening. I cut a two inch length from a spare steel strap I had, the same ones that connect the pedals to the rudder cables. The strap connects to the pedals via the existing bolt. The other end of the spring attaches to the eye bolts at the firewall -- the ones meant for use with the in-flight adjustable pedals.

They work pretty well so far. I need to bias the right side a little to see how well it will work as rudder trim. I need just a little trim to the right.

UPDATE: Having the right spring tighter did work as rudder trim, sorta. To have the proper trim at cruise speeds, meant having things way out of trim at lower speeds. The first time I raised the tail on take-off with the unbalanced springs in place I could really tell they were there! I didn't care for that too much. So, I'm keeping the springs on, evenly balanced, to keep the rudder pedals from flopping aft and putting a wedge on the rudder for trim after I install the wheel pants.
