Paint: Masks & Decals

January 21, 2006 10:40 AM

It's almost been a week since I left the plane at RUQ for paint. Not having an airplane to work on or fly is an odd feeling because I've done one or the other since 1998. I kinda feel like a fish out of water.

Anyway, this week the masks and decals from Woodway arrived in the mail. Woodway was recommended to me by another local RV-8 builder. We will have similar paint schemes, so I was able to tell Phillip at Woodway "I want star-n-bars just like Ron's". It made it pretty easy. My entire experience with Woodway consisted of just a couple emails and was very efficient.

Here are the sample images I got from Woodway. I went with the Nifty second from the bottom. My N number mistakenly ends in M below. It was correctly done when I received the actual paint mask. I think the 8th Air Force decal will look sharp on my Ming Blue (dark metallic) vertical stabilizer. Total cost for the decals and masks was about $325 dollars. The original estimate was higher, but I didn't need any custom design done.
